Budget should honour our needs: Cupper

MEMBER for Mildura Ali Cupper will be looking to ensure her track record in attracting Victorian Government investment will continue in next week’s state budget.
“I’ve spent the last three years in Parliament putting Mildura back on the map after decades of neglect by the major parties, now it’s about capitalising on that momentum,” she said.
Ms Cupper said while funding towards a new Mildura Base Public Hospital is a key priority, there’s a variety of issues she’d like to see tackled in the budget, noting that the Mildura electorate is geographically the second biggest electorate in the state.
“As you can imagine, there is a long list of asks from this community which need to be addressed,” Ms Cupper said.
“Other MPs might have the comfort of having one or two priorities for their patch.
“The size of my electorate and the fact we’ve been ignored for so many years means that I have a much, much longer list of projects.”
Ms Cupper wants to build on her achievements in health, education and roads, but believes there’s also more investment required in rail, housing, farming, small business, community sport and recreation, tourism, and connectivity.
“I’ve brought stakeholders from across the electorate to the table with ministers and government representatives,” she said.
“The government has worked constructively with us across the board, so I hope the state budget reflects that engagement and understanding.”
