Buy local to help small business survive Stage 3 restrictions

GOING back into Stage 3 restrictions will have a huge impact on our small business community, which is why it’s crucial for all of us to pledge our support to help them through this difficult time.

Member for Mildura Ali Cupper on Wednesday is launching her #onlylocal campaign to encourage people to buy local to benefit the recovery of our business community.

“Every small business is an example of grit, courage, risk, resilience and determination,” she said.

“Many struggled to keep their doors open – or reopen – after the first lockdown so we know this one is going to hit even harder.

“A thriving private sector gives us so much but it is easy to take for granted. And you don’t appreciate what you’ve got until it’s gone.”

Ms Cupper said a key component of the #onlylocal campaign was encouraging people to put a moratorium on online shopping for at least six months after the lockdown.

This will increase revenue to local business by between 10-20 per cent.

“This could be enough to keep some businesses alive,” Ms Cupper said.

“If you’re willing to make the pledge, step away from the mouse, send us a picture with the words “I pledge #onlylocal” and we will add it to our online and marketing campaign to highlight our fantastic local businesses to help them survive.”

Ms Cupper said many local businesses would be providing pick-up or home delivery services during the stage 3 lockdown.

“That’s the only time you should be looking to shop online during the lockdown – to order and buy products from our brilliant local businesses!” she said.
