Climate change document showcases bleak reality

Climate Ready Plan.
“This plan highlights the immediate need for our community to become climate ready, and to take action now to protect and prepare ourselves against the effects of climate change,” she said.
The document uses CSIRO data to project how climate change will affect our region, stating that average maximum temperatures in the Mallee will rise by up to 2.8 degrees by the year 2050.
It also suggests that rainfall will decrease, fire seasons will be longer, and Mildura’s climate could become more like Menindee, NSW.
Ms Cupper commended the thoroughness of the report, and the level of detail included in the region’s climate change goals, objectives, and priority actions.
“This spells out the risks and impacts of climate change on our region plainly and simply, and it’s a compelling read,” she said.
Ms Cupper encouraged community members to read the report.
“Often people feel like the challenge of climate change is too big, and that as individuals we can’t do anything,” she said.
“This plan shows that there are ways that each of us can adapt and prepare for climate change.
“Whether it be by caring for country, increasing our water security, strengthening community awareness, or providing incentives to businesses, there are things each of us can do here and now to make a meaningful impact.”
