Cupper backs Ambo resourcing calls

MEMBER for Mildura Ali Cupper has backed calls from local paramedics for better resourcing.
“I’ve met with Brett Adie from Ambulance Employees Association – Victoria about their campaign and during that meeting I assured him that adequate resourcing for our health and ambulance services has always been a top priority for me,” Ms Cupper said.
“I have already met with the Victorian Health Minister Mary-Anne Thomas regarding the health priorities facing the Mildura electorate, and of course ambulance and hospital resourcing is top of that list.”
Ms Cupper paid tribute to the Ambulance Victoria paramedics who have been at the coalface of the global pandemic, and reiterated the need for better resources.
“Our ambos have carried our community through a truly challenging couple of years. We owe them a huge debt of gratitude,” she said.
“They shouldn’t have to suffer because of our distance from Melbourne.
“We are Victorians too and our remoteness needs to be taken into consideration.
“In times of crisis, there is nowhere else to go.”
Ms Cupper said her push is for both additional resources and specific projects.
“I spoke in Parliament [on 9 March 2022] about the need for an improved ambulance station in Irymple, which would allow the introduction of a third shift there, as well as enhancing the roles of paramedics in the community to improve preventative health care,” she said.
“I know the Minister has heard my call and is considering the needs of Mildura on all health fronts including ambulance resourcing.”
