Federal Government steps up for Murray Basin Rail Project

THE Federal Government should be commended for allocating $195.2 million to get the Murray Basin Rail Project back on track, as well as $5 million to go towards a business case for the full standardisation of the network.

Member for Mildura Ali Cupper has urged the Victorian Government to match the $5 million commitment in order for the MBRP to be completed in full.

“I have said all along the Murray Basin Rail Project needed to be completed in full, so it was very disappointing for the Sea Lake and Manangatang lines to be left out of the Victorian Government’s revised project,” Ms Cupper said.

“Full marks to the Federal Government for calling for a $10 million business case to fully scope the project.

“Having the Sea Lake and Manangatang lines standardised is crucial for those communities, farmers and other horticulture stakeholders.”

“Congratulations to Member for Mallee Anne Webster for helping to secure the $195.2 million from the Federal Government – her lobbying efforts have been tremendous.”

The Victorian Government allocated $48.8 million in last month’s Budget towards the revised project.
