Fruit fly funding a boost for Mildura electorate

THE Victorian Government’s announcement it is extending the Managing Fruit Fly in Victoria Action plan 2015-20 will be welcomed by Sunraysia growers.

Mildura Rural City Council will receive $511,900 to implement action plans for 2020-21, while also receiving funding for regional co-ordinators.

“Horticulture is the major industry in the Mildura electorate and programs that can help protect the industry have huge benefits for our growers and our entire economy,” Member for Mildura Ali Cupper said.

“Managing the impacts of Queensland fruit fly is something the entire community can play a role, not just those in the industry.

“It is crucial the Victorian Government also plays its part, and extending the action plan with this funding is welcomed.”

The action plan helps regional groups complete preventative measures including host tree removal and monitoring and controlling fruit fly hot spots.
