Funding boost for Mildura electorate

IN A difficult week with growing COVID-19 cases in Victoria leading to a closure of the border with NSW, the Mildura electorate has received some positive news in the form on Victorian Government funding.

Almost $2 million has been invested into three projects in the electorate, which was welcomed by Member for Mildura Ali Cupper.

The Mildura South Regional Sporting Precinct and Birchip-Watchem Netball club received grants of $750,000 and $200,000 respectively as part of the Victorian Government’s 2020-21 Local Sports Infrastructure Fund.

“The funding will help deliver the Birchip Recreation Reserve Netball Court Upgrade project with the two existing courts to be converted from bitumen to acrylic surfaces,” Ms Cupper said.

“Mildura South Regional Sporting Precinct funding will help in construction of outdoor netball courts and cricket nets – as well as lighting – as part of Stage 1 of the project.

“Of course, my #gameon campaign is ongoing to lobby the Victorian Government for the remaining $10 million to ensure MSRSP is completed in full.”

The Victorian Government has also allocated $607,000 for upgrades to San Mateo Avenue in Mildura between Fourteenth and Twelfth streets.

“We are going through uncertain times and the border closure between Victoria and South Australia this week came as a shock to us all,” Ms Cupper said.

“That’s why it is crucial the Victorian Government keeps investing in infrastructure projects in our region.”
