Have your say on container deposit scheme

A CONTAINER deposit scheme will help reduce rubbish and increase recycling in Victoria.

Member for Mildura Ali Cupper is encouraging people to participate in the Victoria Government’s consultation phase for the program.

“People have the opportunity to have their say through a survey on how the program should work,” she said.

“A container deposit scheme is long overdue in Victoria and I know people in the Mildura electorate are supportive of the concept.

“Depending on how the scheme is designed and implemented, there is an opportunity to grow jobs through collection centres and other logistics.

“We should also ensure community and sporting groups have the opportunity to benefit through any recycling scheme like this.”

The container deposit scheme involves empty drink containers being returned to a collection point for a refund.

“Anything we can do to increase recycling and decrease the amount of rubbish going to landfill is a positive move,” Ms Cupper said.

The consultation period runs until November 30.
