MEMBER for Mildura Ali Cupper has requested an update from Victoria’s Health Minister, Martin Foley, on the status of the Mildura Base Public Hospital masterplan.
During question time this week, Ms Cupper asked the Health Minister about the progress of planning regarding the hospital’s future.
A Services Plan Review has been undertaken, which Minister Foley said is due for release in the very near future.
The plan has identified health priorities for the region, and will point out what is needed to cater for the future health needs of our diverse community.
Ms Cupper said the tone of Minister Foley’s response was promising.
“He said he’s looking forward to the Northern Mallee’s continued enthusiasm and interest surrounding the future of the Base,” she said.
“He also mentioned he’s keen to persuade the Treasurer once our ambitions are outlined in the Services Plan and Capital Plan.”
The Minister for Health was also questioned about assurances he can give that Mildura will get a new site for the Mildura Base Public Hospital.
“The space limitations that exist at the current site will be considered as part of the overall masterplan,” Ms Cupper said.
“The problems and solutions we’re able to present in the planning stages can help determine the capacity, capability and location of the future Base.
“The potential here is limitless, and I look forward to continuing my work with the community and the Government to make sure our health needs are catered for, both in the immediate and long-term future.”
