MILDURA has had the highest growth in first dose vaccination coverage of anywhere in Victoria in the past week.
Another 6.6 per cent of the population, or 2,973 people rolled up their sleeves for the first time to receive a COVID-19 vaccine.
Member for Mildura Ali Cupper said it’s the most impressive performance of any of Victoria’s 79 council areas.
“Off the back of these numbers, more than 90 per cent of the Mildura population aged 15 and over has now received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine,” she said.
“This is an overwhelming majority and is incredibly encouraging, showing that our rate of vaccination isn’t slowing down, if anything it’s speeding up.
“These people have made the conscious decision to protect themselves, protect the community, and keep themselves out of hospital.”
Mildura’s first-dose and second-dose vaccination rates this week are the highest they’ve ever been.
“2,432 people in the Mildura council area recently received their second dose, and will shortly receive the benefits of full vaccine protection,” Ms Cupper said.
“These are incredible milestones being achieved before our eyes – more than half of us are now fully vaccinated, and nine out of every ten people have taken the first step.”
Ms Cupper’s message to the 4,369 people who haven’t been vaccinated is clear.
“Unless you have a medical exemption, you should get vaccinated as a matter of urgency,” she said.
“There’s a suite of walk-in opportunities at your disposal this week, and there’s plenty of choice when it comes to what vaccines are available.
“There is no shortage of supply anymore, so if you’re hesitant, speak to your doctor.”
