THE Electoral Boundaries Commission has today announced its new proposed boundaries for the Mildura electorate.
The most significant change would be expanding the Mildura electorate to include the entirety of Buloke Shire.
Under the proposal, towns including Donald and Charlton, and the districts of Massey, Wooroonook, Dooboobetic and Rich Avon, will no longer sit in the Ripon District.
Any changes to the boundaries will apply at the next Victorian State election.
Member for Mildura Ali Cupper says bringing all of Buloke Shire into the one electorate will help with advocacy.
“What’s exciting about this proposal is that my team won’t have to surrender any towns when the boundaries shift,” Ms Cupper said.
“The electorate will grow by 1,827 square kilometres, giving me the opportunity to represent another two and a half thousand people.
“I can also continue representing people in sections of Yarriambiack Shire and Swan Hill Rural City Council, as well as the entirety of Mildura Rural City.”
The name of the Mildura electorate is also not slated to change.
“Regardless of whether the boundaries shift or not, what is important is that everyone in my zone feels represented,” Ms Cupper said.
“Even though the name says Member for Mildura, I value the wants and needs of each community.
“Through hard work and results my aim is to continue to show that across the electorate, I’m the member for everyone.”
The public can provide feedback on the proposed boundaries until 5 pm on 30 July 2021.
