Praise for footy clubs thinking flexibly for 2022 season

AFL Victoria is finalising a framework for how country footy competitions will handle COVID-19 and function during 2022.
It is covering off the “what ifs” of the coming season to ensure competitions go ahead as uninterrupted as possible.
Member for Mildura Ali Cupper said this kind of planning is highly valuable for local leagues.
“The directions being set out by AFL Victoria are providing clear plans and contingencies for leagues if they run into any COVID-related problems during the season, particularly as we approach winter,” she said.
“Clubs, players and volunteers just want to get back to doing what they love.
“Encouraging clubs to be flexible and ready to adapt to any challenges that may occur will ensure less matches are cancelled, and less seasons are disrupted.”
A similar document has been circulated by the SANFL, providing assurance to Victorian clubs that play in South Australian competitions, including Murrayville.
“The rules set out in both documents are prudent and reasonable, and everyone is keen to ensure that once we return to play, fixtures will remain on track,” Ms Cupper said.
“My hope is that these protocols will provide the answers clubs and players are looking for and will encourage more juniors and families to join this upcoming footy season with confidence.”
