Solution needed for Red Cliffs intersection

MEMBER for Mildura Ali Cupper has called upon the State Department of Transport to focus on improving a notorious Red Cliffs intersection.

“The obvious problem at the intersection of Fitzroy Avenue and the Calder Highway at Red Cliffs needs to be sorted out,” Ms Cupper said.

“It’s an unacceptably dangerous intersection and is a nightmare to navigate.

“It’s on a highway, near a railway line, a business, some flats, a bus stop and a primary school, and a traffic management solution is desperately needed.”

The intersection was identified as a hazard during Ms Cupper’s 2019 Sh*t Roads Tour, and it is now the top priority road that has yet to receive funding.

A request has been made to Treasurer, Tim Pallas and Roads Minister, Ben Carroll for planning money to get the ball rolling.

“There’s been far too many near misses on this road, particularly at school pick up and drop off times when traffic banks up,” Ms Cupper said.

“Given how complex this intersection is, we need a full assessment of the road and surrounding infrastructure, to determine the best possible solution moving forward.

“We want an outcome that boosts community safety, and simplifies how both vehicles and pedestrians can navigate this intersection.”
