Without health we have nothing.
Health has been the biggest policy platform of my political career.
It was the most pressing issue upon my election in 2018 and continues to be so.
The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated our region’s health concerns, but despite this added pressure we’ve had some significant wins.
On 19th September 2000, Mildura Base Hospital was taken over by a private company.
On 15th September 2020 – almost 20 years later, to the day – we took it back.
After years of advocacy the epi-centre of our local healthcare system has been placed back into public management.
The Base has pivoted away from a management driven by profit making, to one driven by patient care – 20 years after the failed privatisation experiment imposed on us by the Kennett Government.
A truly public, community and patient-centred hospital is here. To stay.
After this momentous achievement, the focus has turned to a new and equally urgent challenge: securing a new Mildura Base Public Hospital site that meets the healthcare needs of our community now and into the future.
