Healthcare is a right, not a privilege, and your postcode shouldn’t determine the level of care available to you.
During my time in Parliament, particularly during the pandemic, Rural GPs have been in short supply.
While the solution ultimately relies in the Federal Government’s remit, I’ve been pushing the State Government to come up with short term solutions to help out the GPs that remain, and provide health support to rural townships without a regular GP.
I’ve been a vocal supporter of the APRIP (Advancing Paramedic Roles Implementation Pilot), which has seen highly skilled paramedics address the acute health care needs of the Ouyen community. It’s a model that works, and I’m pushing very hard to see the program extend well beyond the pilot end date of June 30, and for it to be expanded to other towns in the electorate in need.
