NORTH West Victoria has significantly improved its rate of vaccination against COVID-19 in the last seven days.
Last week, the weekly vaccination rate suggested that the wider region would have 70 per cent of its population aged 16 and over fully vaccinated by October 21, and 80 per cent would be fully vaccinated by November 6.
Now, with an improved weekly vaccination rate, North West Victoria is slated to reach 70 per cent double-dose vaccination by October 16, and 80 per cent double-dose vaccination by October 31.
Member for Mildura Ali Cupper said the improved rate of uptake is a positive sign.
“The jump in our weekly vaccination rate means that if we maintain this pace, we could meet our targets earlier than we expect,” Ms Cupper said.
“Because more people have rolled up their sleeves, we could effectively reach our 70 per cent vaccination target five days ahead of schedule, and we could reach 80 per cent six days ahead of schedule.
“Shaving close to a week off of our timelines is no easy task, so I’d like to thank everyone who came forward in the last seven days.”
The Federal Health Department has now also released data breaking down vaccination rates by Local Government Area.
Leading the way in the Mildura electorate are Buloke and Yarriambiack Shires, while the more population dense Swan Hill and Mildura Rural City Councils are in pursuit.
“Buloke Shire and Yarriambiack are leading by example, Buloke has the second highest vaccination rates across the State, and Yarriambiack is in the top ten,” Ms Cupper said.
“Targets are being met as we speak, as today [Tuesday, August 31] marks the day 60 per cent of people in North West Victoria have received their first vaccine.
“I know there’s still lengthy queues and vaccination obstacles in our area, but I’d encourage people to seek out available bookings, and join in the effort.”
